The Arizona Republic - 01/10/08 12:00 AM

Arizona Daily Star – 01/10/08
A University of Arizona planetary scientist who correctly predicted the discovery of a "missing planet" in a distant solar system said he expects the proof will help make the search for other exoplanets more efficient. The discovery of another planet in the HD 74156 solar system was the result of noticing that distant system didn't fit the pattern of other known star and planet systems, said Rory Barnes....

Our Opinion: A pathway to college access
Tucson Citizen – 01/10/08
One-stop shopping is the goal of the Metropolitan Education Commission's new Regional College Access Center. The center - at 10 E. Broadway - is preparing to launch a Web site to provide information on how to prepare for college, how to apply to colleges and how to apply for scholarships. The site should be of great help to parents and youths, most of whom are daunted by the byzantine searches necessary to find and tap such opportunities.

PHOENIX -- A proposal to cut $110 million in spending just as classes are about to resume for the spring semester is a near impossibility, Arizona's three state university presidents told lawmakers Wednesday. That translates to nearly $50 million for Arizona State University, more than $44 million for the University of Arizona and $16 million at Northern Arizona University.

Stop the posturing on budget deficit
Arizona Daily Sun – 01/10/2008
It's easy to be an Arizona lawmaker when the state treasury is flush. But when tax revenues head south in the middle of a budget year, as they are currently doing, the going gets tougher. Legislative leaders and the governor can either sit down early and work out a compromise or sit down later after they've postured for their respective constituencies to the point of stalemate.
