Earnings Gap Between College and High School Grads Small
By Mary Pilon. A college education may not be worth as much as you think. For years, higher education was touted as a safe path to professional and financial success. Easy money, in the form of student loans, flowed to help parents and students finance degrees, with the implication that in the long run, a bachelor's degree was a good bet. But now, as tuition continues to skyrocket and many seeking to change careers are heading back to school, some researchers are questioning the methodology behind the high projections.

OPINIONS

Without gifts, UA programs would be hurting
[Editorial] As state funding for UA continues to decline, the school counts more and more on gifts. In 2008-09, those totaled $141 million. The biggest slice of that pie - $39.6 million - went to academic divisions within the university. Donors chose to give $7.5 million to athletics. That's consistent with the pattern over the past three years, during which donations to sports accounted for 4 to 5 percent of total giving.

Reading is built on rich language exposure throughout preschool years
Dr. Dorothy D. Johnson and Dr. Barbara L. Smith. We applaud Rep. Rich Crandall, R-Mesa, for his concern for third-graders who are unable to read at their age level, but intervention must begin well before the primary grades. Locally, First Things First is funding parent and provider training through the UA's early speech-language specialists.
