Earnings Gap
Between College
and High School
Grads Small
By Mary Pilon. A
college
education may
not be worth as
much as you
think. For
years, higher
education was
touted as a safe
path to
professional and
financial
success. Easy
money, in the
form of student
loans, flowed to
help parents and
students finance
degrees, with
the implication
that in the long
run, a
bachelor's
degree was a
good bet. But
now, as tuition
continues to
skyrocket and
many seeking to
change careers
are heading back
to school, some
researchers are
questioning the
methodology
behind the high
projections.

Without gifts,
UA programs
would be hurting
[Editorial] As
state funding
for UA continues
to decline, the
school counts
more and more on
gifts. In
2008-09, those
totaled $141
million. The
biggest slice of
that pie - $39.6
million - went
to academic
divisions within
the university.
Donors chose to
give $7.5
million to
athletics.
That's
consistent with
the pattern over
the past three
years, during
which donations
to sports
accounted for 4
to 5 percent of
total giving.

intervention
must begin well
before the
