ASU Foundation criticized over spending, hiring Crow's wife
The Arizona Republic - March 24, 2008 11:02 PM
An activist group is criticizing Arizona State University's main fundraising arm for its rising spending
and for hiring ASU President Michael Crow's wife for a six-figure salary. The coalition of unions and
community members, which has been at odds with ASU over labor issues, claims the non-profit
ASU Foundation has lost sight of its mission because of rising overhead and some inappropriate
expenses. Foundation and university officials, who saw a copy of the report Monday, called the
findings inaccurate and misleading and said the group is pushing a political agenda.

I have a further thought on the rising cost of college textbooks ("Cap and gouge," Editorial, Friday). In
my many years of attending night school, I discovered that the textbook for the class, although often

O'Neill remains unsettled. Olson, who cited a medical condition for taking all this season off, said he
would meet with O'Neill today but was noncommittal on any plans for him. O'Neill, who was announced
as Olson's eventual successor in December, declined to comment on Olson.

assigned last semester, he says, his total would have been closer to $700. That includes the $200
book he bought about human anatomy and physiology. "Oftentimes you have professors who say,
'This is a textbook you need,' " said Nagata, a physiology major.
