Matthew Ortega appointed Assistant Executive Director for Public Affairs
for the Arizona Board of Regents
Linda Blessing, Executive Director of the Arizona Board of Regents, announced today that Matthew Ortega has been selected as the Assistant Executive Director for Public Affairs. His appointment is effective November 16, 2000.
Ortega currently serves as the Community/Intergovernmental Relations Officer for the Regional Public Transportation Authority, Valley Metro and has served in this capacity since March, 1997. He previously served as the Intergovernmental Liaison for the City of Gilbert from September, 1994 to March, 1997. Prior to that, he worked at the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, serving as the Legislative Liaison and Special Assistant to the Director from April, 1993 to September, 1994. Ortega has served on various boards and commissions, including the Capin Commission/Regents Task Force on University Access, the Tempe Leadership Board of Directors, and the Phoenix Police Department’s Hispanic Citizen’s Advisory Group. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Arizona State University. While attending Arizona State University, Ortega served as Student Body President in 1990-1991.
As Assistant Executive Director, Ortega will represent the Board on both governmental and public affairs matters.
