You are encouraged to browse each university’s website for financial assistance including FAFSA deadlines, institutional scholarships, application processes for merit and need- based aid, and student employment opportunities. Scholarships vary for incoming freshmen, transfer, returning adult, international, and graduate students.

Students are encouraged to contact the department of your major for additional scholarship opportunities. Please note that the majority of the departmental scholarships are given to students above the freshman year.

Check with your high school guidance office for community-based scholarships and for dates and times when Arizona university representatives are scheduled to visit your school.
Transfer Students: Local Community College Financial Aid Offices
Community college students who plan to transfer to a university are encouraged to speak with their financial aid office for assistance. Members of the community college All-Arizona Academic Team may be eligible for tuition waivers upon transfer to an Arizona university.
Local Employers, Civic Agencies, Clubs, Organizations, and Churches
Several local organizations assist students with scholarships. Contact these organizations early for application processes and deadlines.

FAFSA—Free Application for Federal Student Aid
By filling out the FAFSA, you are applying for several types of awards including grants, loans, and employment/work-study. Grants are awards that do not need to be paid back. Loans, however, do need to be paid back with interest over time. Work-study jobs are available to students with financial need; if hired, students receive paychecks based on hours worked. Students applying for fall semester are encouraged to fill out the application as soon after January 1 as possible. Please check institutional deadlines and codes. Application forms are available from any high school, university, or community college. Students may also apply on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
FREE Web-based Scholarship Searches
Numerous free scholarship searches are available via the internet. Use caution when confronted with companies who “guarantee” scholarships for a fee as there are many free services available. Your high school and many local libraries have free access to the internet for public use. The following are a few examples of free searches:
