IPEDS (INTEGRATED POSTSECONDARY EDUCATION
DATA SYSTEM)The U.S. Department of Education, National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) is directed by federal law to collect statistics relating to the "condition of education." The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) is a system of surveys designed to collect data in such areas as enrollments, program completions, faculty, staff, and finances from all primary providers of postsecondary education. The data collection for Arizona is coordinated by the Arizona Board of Regents.
Schedule for IPEDS 2006-2007 Web Collection
Registration: All institutions will be required to register for the 2006-07 data collection cycle.
August 2, 2006 IDs and passwords for the upcoming collection cycle will be distributed to all institutions. Those with designated keyholders will receive information via email. All institutions for which there is no designated keyholder will receive a letter directed to the CEO containing registration information. August 2, 2006 Registration opens August 30, 2006 NCES will review the registration status of each institution. If an institution has not registered as of this date, a letter will be sent to the CEO requesting appointment of a new keyholder. Fall Collection includes Institutional Characteristics and Completions.
September 6 Fall Collection Opens October 18 Collection Closes for Institutions November 1 Collection Closes for Coordinators Winter Collection includes the combined Human Resources component (Employees by Assigned Position, Salaries, Fall Staff), Enrollment and Finance. Institutions will be able to lock both the Enrollment and Finance components in the winter or the spring.
December 6 Winter Collection Opens January 24 Collection Closes for Institutions February 7 Collection Closes for Coordinators Spring Collection includes Enrollment and Finance (for those institutions that did not lock in the winter), Student Financial Aid, and Graduation Rates
March 7 Spring Collection Opens April 18 Collection Closes for Institutions May 2 Collection Closes for Coordinators Compliance Notice: Mandatory Reporting Requirements for Institutions with Program Participation Agreements.
Section 490 of the Higher Education Amendments of 1992 (P.L. 102-325) requires that “institutions will complete surveys conducted as part of the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS)…in a timely manner and to the satisfaction of the Secretary”. Thus, reporting to IPEDS is mandatory for institutions that participate in or are applicants for participation in any Federal financial assistance program authorized by Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended (20 USC 1094(a)(17)).
