Statement from ABOR Chair Lyndel Manson on Indigenous educators funding

“Our board appreciates the investment by the Arizona Department of Education in Indigenous education programs at Arizona’s public universities. With an investment of $3 million, these dollars will enable strengthening of Indigenous education in Arizona, while honoring the cultures, languages, values and history of Native American tribes. It is imperative to provide high quality educators and professional development opportunities for teachers within tribal nations to provide increased opportunity and better quality of life for students. With more than 20 federally recognized tribes in Arizona, this funding will provide opportunities for Indigenous educators who are committed to teaching Native American youth. There are few things in life as powerful as a great teacher and the students who become teachers through this funding will make a real difference among Arizona’s Indigenous students.”
