Tuition proposals include no tuition increases for Arizona resident undergraduate students for 2021-22 academic year

Phoenix, Ariz. - Presidents of Arizona’s three public universities released their tuition and mandatory fee proposals for the 2021-22 academic year today. Arizona State University proposes no tuition increases for any current or incoming student, both undergraduate and graduate. Northern Arizona University and the University of Arizona propose no tuition increase for resident undergraduate students. This marks the second year the ASU, NAU and UArizona presidents have proposed no tuition increases for resident undergraduate students.

Proposals are available through the links below:

“I appreciate the work of our universities in proposing no increase for resident undergraduate students for the second year. The COVID-19 pandemic has placed financial hardship on many students and this reflects our commitment to ensuring an affordable education even as our institutions experience fiscal challenges wrought from the pandemic. I also appreciate the continuation of tuition guarantee and pledge programs that keep college costs predictable for students,” said Arizona Board of Regents Chair Larry E. Penley.

Northern Arizona University proposed a tuition increase of 5 percent for resident graduate students and the University of Arizona proposed a tuition increase of 1.4 percent for resident graduate students. Proposals submitted also include changes to college fees, program fees, class fees, and meal and residence hall rates.

The next event in the process for setting tuition at Arizona’s public universities is a virtual public hearing that the Arizona Board of Regents will hold for students and individuals to comment on the tuition proposals from 3-5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6. Instructions on how to comment, including a form to fill out to participate in the public hearing, is posted under “public notices” on the ABOR website. The public hearing may be viewed through ABOR Live. Comments on tuition proposals may also be submitted electronically to tuition@azregents.edu.

A virtual tuition workshop where presidents will present their proposals will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 8. On Thursday, April 15, the board is expected to vote on tuition and fee proposals. The tuition workshop and board meeting will be livestreamed and instructions will be available through ABOR Live.

Public comments regarding tuition and fees will not be taken at the board meeting on April 15 given the public hearing that will be held on April 6. Individuals may also send comments through: regular mail, at 2700 N. Central Ave., Suite 400, Phoenix, AZ 85004; by fax at (602) 229-2555; or through the board’s “contact us” page.
