Student Regent Vianney Careaga was appointed to the board by Gov. Doug Ducey and began his term on July 1, 2016. He currently serves as a member of the Regents Executive Committee and is an ex officio member of the Audit Committee, Business and Finance Committee, Academic and Student Affairs Committee, and Research, Innovation and Impact Committee. Regent Careaga is a student at the University of Arizona where he is a political science major with a minor in philosophy. He has served with the Associated Students of the University of Arizona as the director of civic engagement and was senior class president at Salpointe Catholic High School in Tucson. He has also interned for Sen. John McCain and has earned the rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America. Careaga has held many leadership roles within the Boy Scouting Program, most notably serving as a section chief for the Order of the Arrow, Boy Scouting’s National Honor Society. He remains an active member of his community by volunteering on his high school’s alumni council, serving as an assistant scoutmaster in his Boy Scout Troop, and by serving as president for the local chapter of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Regent Careaga’s first year on the board will be served as a non-voting member.
